Sarcoma Walk/BBQ

The same weekend that Tim participated in the Scout Fireside, we also attended a Sarcoma Walk/BBQ at Jordanelle Reservoir. Friday night, after the fireside, we spent the night at the Homestead in Midway. Gotta love free hotel nights from Cory's previous job:)

(Kids Saturday morning watching tv)

Once at Jordanelle, we put the boat in the water and headed over to the pavillion for the Sarcoma events. After passing out shirts for everyone, there was a short walk. Tim wasn't feeling well, so I sat with him and watched people walk. Then we had a yummy BBQ. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, speciality salads, huge cupcakes and beverages! After we filled our bellies and visited with doctors, nurses, other sarcoma patients and families, we headed out on the boats.

(Jessica and Tim tubing. Jessica has a double rotation plasty on her left leg. Her cancer was in her upper thigh, so she had her hip and thigh removed and her knee became her hip and her ankle became her knee. Tim was interested in her prosthesis -he didn't have his at the time- and learning all about it! )

After taking Jessica and her family out for awhile, we went back to the beach and picked up Tim's doctors-Dr. Wright and Dr. Jones and his family.

(Mak and Tim on the boat with Dr. Jones in the background. Don't you love how excited they are?)

After a long boat ride around the lake, we dropped off the doctors, said our good-byes and thank yous, then headed back out on the lake. We went up a channel and found a place to beach the boat and have some dinner.

(This is where we ate dinner and played in the water for awhile.)

(While Cory warmed up some hotdogs, the girls played in the water and mud. They took turns covering each other in the brown mud. Who needs a fancy spa when there's Joranelle Reservoir?)

Even though Tim wasn't feeling well because his counts were low, I know he enjoyed meeting sarcoma survivors, hearing their stories and seeing how life goes on! It's a great community to belong to in this situation that is now apart of our life forever. Mak had a difficult time with the weekend because it was all about Tim. However, I know that she had a good time and liked being there for her brother. This has not been an easy 9 months for her. But, she loves her brother dearly and would do anything for him:)

I don't know if you remember me- we met at the hospital (I am Jackson's mom). I love your blog. I love that you keep it updated. Thank you for sharing it with me.

Jackson thinks about Tim all of the time. He likes to remember racing cars with his buddy at the hospital.

Your family is an inspiration to me. I love that you can do lots of 'normal' things. I wish I had been at the campout to hear Tim speak.

Thanks again for sharing!
