Fireside

A couple weekends ago, Tim took part in a fireside for an 11yr old scout camp. Our friend, Kelli Bishop, asked Tim if he would speak about his experience with cancer, receiving the priesthood and share his testimony of the gospel. The theme for the camp was "Camp Moroni." And the scripture of focus was Alma 48:17 - "Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men."

Kelli wrote Tim a letter sharing this scripture and her desire for him to speak to the 11yr olds in her stake. This is what she wrote: I have felt that you are a young man committed to faith in your Heavenly Father. You have been determined to put your trust in the Lord and fight your battle-just like Moroni. Tim, I was especially impressed by your duty to the priesthood and your new calling as a deacon. You received the priesthood, passed the sacrament, had major surgery to remove a large portion of your leg, and then returned to pass the sacrament two weeks later. That is amazing. Moroni would be proud to have a boy like you in his army! I know you would be an inspiration to the boys in our stake."

Even though Tim was not feeling his best due to his counts being low from a previous chemo treatment, he went to the camp held just east of Heber City. He shared his experiences with cancer, talked about the priesthood and how it makes him feel, and shared his testimony of the gospel. It was a treat for me as a Mom to hear Tim speak and see how the last 8 months have changed my little boy into an amazing young man! Some of you ask, "Will Tim ever be the same?" No, he will not be the same. He will be BETTER!

(Where the fireside took place. Just before we arrived, it rained. So, everything was wet and it was cool. Good thing I remembered to throw in the BYU sweatshirts!)
(The stake camp is called Aspen Lakes. This is one of the lakes that we got to look at from the seats in the previous picture.)

After Tim spoke, we got to eat "Dough Boys" around the fire! Dough Boys are treats made by roasting some sort of dough that is wrapped around a stick or dowel. Once roasted, you take the dough off the stick, and open it up just to enough to fill it with jam, chocolate chips, whip cream or whatever! The kids loved them:) Tim kept thanking Kelli for the opportunity to speak and how much he enjoyed it, even though he was nervous at first. Hopefully Tim will have more opportunities to speak about his battle with cancer and that there is hope amid a trial!

Tim is an amazing kid. I'm sure he brought a special spirit to the fireside.
