We are done with CHEMO!!! Saturday was a great day for the family:) Tim got his last chemo around 4:30 in the morning. Then he and Cory sat around all day while the maintenance fluid did its job.
A little after 4pm, Tim pulled the needle out of his port. Tim kept this needle to put in his cancer keepsake box.
Then we gathered at the nurses' station. The nurses and techs sang "Happy Last Chemo" to Tim. We had quite the gathering of friends and family for the little ceremony-15 of us plus about a dozen nurses! It was awesome!!
Then came the moment that Tim has been waiting for since he started treatments. He grabbed hold of the rope and rang that bell long and hard! And of course, he was smiling his big smile the whole time!!
And that was it! We took a few pictures around the bell, said thank you, gave hugs and gathered our belongings.
And we walked out of the hospital, not looking back, but knowing we would be back. Tim will have his blood drawn for the next three weeks to check his counts. Mid-October we will go back for tests, scans and a visits with his doctors. If all looks good, a day will be scheduled to take out his port! This will be a surgical procedure. After that, it is tests and scans every three months for the next 2 years. For now, we are enjoying knowing that Tim will not have to be poisoned and we will not be spending any nights in the hospital!! Life is GREAT!!
