Shriner's

This past Friday, Cory and I took Tim to Shriner's Hospital to get things started for a prosthetic.

(Tim outside of Shriner's Hospital.)

We first met with a couple of doctors in the clinic. It was a very short visit since Tim already had the surgery and is under the care of Dr. J. They did write some orders for us to visit with physical therapy that day though. So, next stop was PT. The therapist gave us lots of stretching exercises to do and things to toughen up the bottom of Tim's foot. The bottom of Tim's foot is too sensitive right now for a prosthetic. By then, it was time for lunch. Every Friday, Shriner's has a BBQ, so we ate hamburgers and hotdogs. It was a nice change in the way of "hospital" food:) After we filled our bellies, we made our way over to the prosthesis guy. Tim was too swollen for a mold to be taken of his limb. So, the guy is going to order a special sock for Tim that will help with the swelling. We should have that this coming Tuesday. And the first week of August, Tim should get a mold of his limb taken and the prosthetic making will start. Keep your fingers crossed that Tim is walking, without crutches, when middle school starts Aug. 29th:)

Shriner's can do some pretty amazing things with prosthesis. While we were there, we saw a teenager riding a mountain bike around using a prosthetic arm from the shoulder down. Another teenager was walking around with a prosthetic like one that Tim will have. And a teenage girl was getting fitted for a couple of leg prosthesis that look more like a real legs than just a steel bar. It was pretty cool and exciting for Tim!
