And Mak's friend, Haylee. Enjoy!

Like I said in my last post, this past week has been a busy one with getting ready for school and all. We did a little bit of school shopping, we went to Cowabunga Bay one last time, there was the trip to the dentist (no cavities), and a movie. I also went through the kids' rooms, cleaning out stuff collected from the summer and going through clothes. While I was helping Tim out, we decided to change his room around a bit. This is what it looks like now.Yesterday, I set out to go through Mak's room. Somehow she convinced me to move her into the basement. So, I spent all afternoon and part of the evening moving her into the playroom and the playroom into her room. She was at a friends house til 9pm. When she got home, I had her go get ready for bed. She went upstairs, not knowing that I had switched rooms. I heard her upstairs, then she came bounding down the stairs all happy and giddy. Tim and I covered her eyes and led her into her new room. She was so excited. It took her an hour and a half to finally go to sleep. It didn't help that she had a Dr. Pepper at 8:30. This her room now in the basement. And these pictures are of the playroom that is now in Mak's old bedroom. It is next to the twins' bedroom. Hopefully they will play with their toys more since it isn't in the basement so far away from the world! So with all the moving around that's taken place and all the clothes/shoes/backpacks that have been bought, I think we are ready for another school year. We'll see what the weekend has in store for us though!

Garage Update

It has been awhile since my last post. Sorry about that. We have had family in town and then Cory and I went out of town for a couple of days. Also, I have been busy with back-to-school things. What a crazy summer! The older kids go back to school next week. In another post, I will let you see all the fun things that have taken place since our trip to Montana. But for now, the garage. Our neighbor finally finished digging. The kids loved playing in the trenches. Take a look. This is Tim and his friend, Luc, standing in the trench. And here is Kelli and Katie in the trench. The kids played for hours in the dirt one day. They had ladders going down into it and bridges across it. Forget about the swing sets and other backyard toys, just dig my kids a hole! This past Monday, the footings were framed up and the cement was poured. It was so hot that the footings were dry the same afternoon.
Tuesday morning, the foundation guys came, framed, and poured cement. This is what the foundation looks like with the frames gone and the cement dry. The last two nights, Gary has been coming over and back filling the trenches around the foundation. The dirt pile in the backyard is slowly going away. I am guessing that by this time next week, most of the framing will be done, if not all of it and the garage floor will be poured. My favorite saying through this crazy summer has been, "Good times at the Wrights!" Amen!!

Day 1

Yesterday, destruction of the backyard began! Here is a picture of the garage before:Gary Baker, our neighbor brought a small digger over and began to take out the cement behind the garage and to dig into the grass for the footings. We had quite the audience for the event. This picture shows just a few of the spectators at the beginning of the dig.Gary didn't get as much done as he had hoped. The dirt in Herriman is full of rocks. This is a picture of the pile of rocks, with some dirt mixed in. We had a pond in the backyard that we got rid of for the addition. Gary was able to fill in the hole with some of the dirt. Was I thinking or what? This picture is about as far as we got yesterday. I am quite excited for the whole thing. We have been planning this since spring, and now it is finally happening! I will keep you posted.

Downing a Tree

For those of you who don't know what is going on in our backyard, we are adding on to the garage. Just the garage! Cory has been wanting a "shop" for awhile, so we recently refinanced and the rest is taking place behind the garage as I type. We also need more room to put the boat in (gotta protect those investments) and the truck. But before the digging could start, we had to cut down a huge Aspen tree! So sad. It was huge and gave us a lot of shade.I know, nice tree, but it had to go. Cory tried to cut the thing down with a neighbor's chainsaw, but the "pain-in-the-butt" machine would not do the job. This is Cory trying to get the "thing" running.Cory was about to give up for the night, but the girls were all lined up, watching and Tim was going for the hand saw out of the trailer. How could a Dad stop now? Here is the tree after it came down. Then we had the lovely task of cutting it into smaller pieces and getting it out of the way. Remember, the chainsaw was not working, so we cut it up with the hand saw. The kids would grab a limb after Cory had cut one off and drag it to the side of the side where I piled them up. This is what the side of our house looks like now. Anyone want some dead leaves? And this is what our yard looks like without the tree. A big change and we miss the shade. But better things are to come. I will keep you updated on the progress!
