Leaves, Acorns, Horseshoes and Cows?

This is Yellow Fork Canyon, just about 10 minutes from our house. This past Sunday, instead of laying around after church, we went for a little outing!
It was so beautiful up there. The kids had so much fun walking and being aware of everything around them. They enjoyed watching our dog, Toby, sniff everything and mark his territory on every little bush.
The kids were pretty excited about all the cool forts there too! They thought that someone had made them for protection while surviving. We watch way too much Discovery Channel! Cory tried to explain that is how those type of trees grow. After awhile, he gave up and just let the kids' imagination wander!
I had no idea that there are acorns in Utah, nevertheless, so close to our house. The girls slowed us down a bit by picking up acorns. We took home about 10 times what you see here:)
Along the trail, we found a horseshoe on the ground. I was just about to step on it with the nails up when Cory saw it! Tim snagged it and it is now apart of his room. Maybe it will bring the family some good luck, although we have so many blessings right now:)
Just before we turned around to head back to the truck, we had a little bit of a scare when we heard some noise in the bushes next to us, but couldn't see anything. We threw rocks and made lots of noise, but still nothing. (There are mountain lions in this neck of the woods.) So to be safe, we turned around and ran into this. A herd of cows just hanging out. The kids were amazed by seeing cows so close. I guess we need to take them to a ranch or something and let them experience cows!
The kids are off track for 3 1/2 weeks. We have some exciting outings planned. We are going to a pumpkin patch for our annual pumpkin picking. The kids love the corn maze, tractors and finding the "perfect" pumpkin. Then there will be our annual FHE where we carve the pumpkins! Kelli is having her hernia surgery next week. We might check out a corn maze or something along that line as well. Cory and I have been invited to a Mystery Dinner so there will be pictures and details from that! And don't forget Halloween. Wow, I am tired just from writing about what we are going to do. The next 3 weeks should go by fast! Right;)
