Camping in March?

Last Friday, Cory and I decided to take the kids out camping for the first time this year. We thought we would have the ideal weekend to go to the Knolls - just 40 miles east of Wendover. Here is our lovely campsite. No trees, just lots of sand and trails for some fun riding!
We got a out late Friday afternoon, 5pm. We got to Magna, and I asked Cory if he had packed any long pants since he had shorts on and nights can be quite cool in the desert. He said yes, they were in the bag. Well, we didn't communicate very well, and the bag was left at home on our bed. We should have turned around and went home at this point. But, the kids were so excited to go camping, so I called my Mom and she brought us the bag while we ate dinner at McDonald's. Once we got set up, in the dark, Tim got a fire going and we had smores'. The night was beautiful. Quiet, warm and the stars were so bright! We went to bed with the wind blowing just a bit! During the night, I didn't sleep well at all. The wind was blowing so hard that I thought the trailer was going to blow over. Cory kept telling me that our trailer was too heavy to be blown over. I later found out that he didn't sleep well either. I thought for sure that the wind during the night would stop as the next day came to, and we would be left with a beautiful "calm before the storm" day. NOT!! The wind blew hard all day long! While Cory and Tim were off riding in the clouds of dirt, the girls were playing in the sand. The picture above is Tim riding around. After awhile, they all came to me asking for their goggles to wear. Here's a picture of the three of them! They were so cute.
We ate lunch, then headed out for a family ride. See the hill behind the girls in the picture? On the left side you can barely see a trail. That's were our family ride started and ended. Half way up the trail, Tim dumped his bike and broke the clutch. So, Cory, Tim and Kelli went to Wendover to find a clutch and a battery for the trailer. All the power was drained out while unhooking the vehicle. Mak, Katie and I stayed behind and hung out. I read a bit, Katie watched HMS3 on Mak's i-pod, and Mak played some games. We had no power, the kitchen sink was leaking so I couldn't clean dished from lunch, and the wind was still blowing. Cory called from Wendover and said there was no motorcycle parts place and the auto parts place was already closed so we couldn't get a battery. I started to pack up. I had had enough and just wanted to go home. Plus, there was no way we could have a campfire if the wind continued, which the kids were really looking forward to. The drive home was long. The wind blew us all over the road and at times the visibility was terrible! We rewarded the family, and my mom, with a night out to the movies. We all showered quickly and made it to the 7:15 showing of "Race to Witch Mountain!" Very good show. Well worth the weekend we had!
